Before 2013 ends, I would like to make a list of what I learned this year. Some of these, I learned by accident. By committing stupid mistakes, I learned to be a better person. Many don't know me for who I truly am and with this post, I'm hoping that they get to know me better. Here are the things that I learned in 2013:
1)
It is okay to step out of your comfort zone. It doesn't have to be a big thing. It could be talking to your crush or someone you wanted to befriend. It could even be changing classes! That was the case for me. I was in the same class with the same group of friends for three years. It was a big scary step to leave my excellence (IB) class to go to regular. I am very proud of myself for doing that.
2)
You need to stand up for yourself. You see, many will pick on you. If you let them say horrible things to your face, it's like telling them that were right about those assumptions. Don't ever let anyone tell you that you are nothing less than a wonderful person. But always remember to be respectful. Don't insult them back or make impulsive actions. Do not be the bully.
3)
Cherish your friends. I am currently in my fourth year of high school and with only one year to go. I learned to stick to the friends that never left my side since day one. They were the ones who never failed to cheer me up when I'm sad. Those who were never afraid to scold me whenever I did something bad. You guys know who you are. Thank you for still being here despite my craziness and issues.
4)
Change yourself for the better. Make wise choices that may lead you to a better path. Actually, even if these choices aren't exactly wise (Ex: choosing hard math. Biggest regret this year.), learn to make it a self-improving tool.
5)
Appreciate what you have. As you all know, the Philippines got hit by typhoon Haiyan/Yolanda. Watching the news and seeing how devastating it was for the families affected, I learned to not complain about materialistic things. I am lucky to have shelter, to be able to eat three times a day, to have my family complete... I could make a whole other list for these things. I am blessed with many things and that is enough. I don't NEED the things I want. So, I shouldn't complain about not having them.
This is a serious post, I guess. I wish to make more of these because I truly enjoy writing them.
Happy Holidays, everyone! :)
